Forest Engagement Photos | Katie and Brett

These past few months were a whirlwind for the newly engaged Katie and Brett! They bought a house, moved in, and a few days later left for a trip to New Zealand with another couple. Little did Katie know that this trip would change her life! Katie, who is a wedding planner herself, met Brett in high school through mutual friends (even though she didn’t remember his name so they had to “re-meet”)!

Katie has had a lot of time to experience different weddings through her work and narrow down what she does and does not want from her own wedding day. They are planning to get married at the same place where they took their forest engagement photos– Lucky Old Sun Ranch in Jupiter, Florida. “We’re not beach people,” Katie said, “and we wanted something unique to us where we could have muted tones and pull out some bright colors.” Katie has coordinated many weddings at Lucky Old Sun Ranch, so she knows exactly what a blank canvas she has to work with at this rustic venue.

On their sixth day of their recent trip to New Zealand, Brett planned to propose at the top on a lighthouse they planned to climb. Katie has a fear of heights, so they ended up not going and Brett had to change his plans! The next day they went on an extensive hike and Katie kept wanting to stop and turn around, but her friends kept convincing her to get to the end. They finally reached the top of the hike where Katie and Brett shared a ham sandwich. She says Brett started saying all these sweet things, but she just did not want to hear anything because she was so tired! Katie finally saw the ring in his hand and realized he was proposing! She broke into tears and said YES!

The couple video chatted with their families right away, but then kept it quiet for a few days so they could just enjoy their time together before letting other people know the exciting news!

James, one of their friends who is from New Zealand, is going to travel here officiate their January wedding. James was even able to snap an photos of the proposal (even though he almost missed is cue from Brett)!

The Ring
Seeing so many rings as a wedding planner, Katie knew that she did not want the typical white diamond. Katie said that Brett’s eyes are blue so she is partial to that color!  Brett knew that Katie wanted something simple, beautiful and unique and he totally picked the perfect ring out on his own!
